Banksy in New York

Banksy is doing a residency in New York for the month of October so I had been waiting for the moment where I would finally be able to see one of his works in person. Unfortunately, most of them have been getting defaced rather quickly so I haven’t had much luck. That is until today, when I casually checked the Banksy NY website and saw that he had just posted a new one in TriBeCa. Naturally, I used my lunch break to rush downtown and found a crowd of people hovered over the tiny spray painting of the New York skyline and the Twin Towers. It was a total frenzy and people were taking zillions of photos (including myself). I even super-awkwardly asked a girl to take a photo of me with the graffiti. I’m going to make an effort to continue looking for more of his stuff while he’s here, so check back!

Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity

Last weekend I went to the Met alone. It was a pretty dismal Saturday so I figured I might as well go to a museum before it started getting really nice. Also, I had been wanting to see the exhibition Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity for a while. I don’t know a whole lot about art (besides a few art history classes I took), but I love impressionism. I have enjoyed the last few fashion-y exhibits the Met did (McQueen and Prada/Schiaparelli) and this one was great as well. Pictures weren’t allowed but you can check out images here. If you’re in New York you should definitely go. It runs until May 27th.

Past Weekends

I haven’t posted in a while so I’m going to try to make an effort to do so more regularly. A few weeks ago I went to the Heard NY exhibit in Grand Central. It was a public art exhibit of decorative “horses” that performed twice a day. Two dancers could fit inside each horse. Unfortunately, it was so crowded during the performances that I couldn’t even catch a glimpse so I had to go back afterwards. They were amazing! I also went to Cape Cod over Easter weekend for one of the first nice weekends of the year. The following weekend I went up to Northampton, MA to visit my sister at school. We went to Tart Baking Co., which just opened a few months ago. The coffee was great and they had a ton of pastries and organic chocolate. If you’re in the area I definitely recommend going. Oh yeah, and I tried a Crumbs cupcake for the first time. Follow me on Instagram @kturro!
